Welcome to Co-op Academy Glebe

Our summer term is always a busy term, especially for our Year 6 pupils and staff. Our KS2 SATs have now taken place, and we are extremely proud of how hard all the children have worked and conducted themselves this week. Safer Parking

What can you do to help keep everyone safe around the school gates?

Please don’t:

· Block the road - emergency vehicles and other traffic may need access

· Park on yellow lines, zig-zags or block the school entrance

· Park on the pavement, across dropped kerbs, across school gates  or residents’ driveways

· Park opposite or within 10 metres of a junction

· Park where you will cause inconvenience to other road users

· Leave your vehicle with the engine still running

· Stop in the middle of the road to drop your child off, even for a few seconds

· Park in alleyways as this needs to be accessible for our community

These changes make a real difference to the congestion around schools, making the school run less stressful and far safer for everyone. PLEASE just give yourself a few extra minutes to park carefully and considerately and walk a bit further if necessary. Please also pass this information on to any other adults who drop off/collect your child(ren) from school. We have regularly been in touch with the local council asking them for support, we have had several meetings with local MP’s asking for support to keep our community safe, our PCSO regularly supports the safety around the  school.

PLEASE DO SUPPORT KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE AROUND SCHOOL BY DRIVING AND PARKING SENSIBLY AT ALL TIMES

Grey or black trousers/ skirt

Grey or black socks/tights

Black plain shoes, no heels

Earrings must be studs only and not hoops

In the summer

• Grey or black trouser shorts

• Red and white summer dresses

Key Stage 2 children Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 are required to wear a school tie and shirt. Children in Year 1 and Year 2 may wear a clip on tie if they wish. However, children in Nursery and Reception must not wear one, due to their age and safety implications when playing. Jewellery must not be worn with the exception of one pair of stud earrings. Please ensure your child does not wear earrings with hoops to school for health and safety reasons. These must be removed for PE by parents prior to the start of the PE day if your child is unable to remove them for PE themselves. Makeup, nail varnish and false nails are also not permitted.

Holidays/Lates and Fines

All holidays are unauthorised. Families will receive a fine issued from the LA for taking their child out of school for 5 days recorded as unauthorised. If your child receives an unauthorised late mark (after 9am arrival) on 10 occasions, they will also be subject to a fine along with 10 marks (5 days) due to an unauthorised mark. Please do try to make any essential appointments after school or as late/early as possible in the day to minimise how much learning time is lost.

Holidays or any requests for leave of absence still need to be processed, and a form should be completed 4 weeks in advance. Please ask at the office for an Application For Leave of Absence Form. You will then have the form returned to indicate if authorised and if there will be a fine. The school does NOT receive any of the money from the fines, it is processed by the Local Authority after the school has shared the information. If you feel you have an exceptional circumstance and can provide documentation to support this, please indicate this on the form so it can be reviewed. However, the reason does need to be very exceptional. Please feel free to make an appointment to discuss before asking for any leave.

Once processed by the Local Authority, which will be once you have returned from your holiday, both parents/carers for a 1st offence Penalty Notice Fine is £80 per pupil per parent, rising to £160 if not paid within the stated time or a 2nd offence (within 3 years) a fine of £160 per parent per child or 3 or more offences (within 3 years) the case will go to Magistrates court and can be fined up to £2,500 per parent per child and can appear on parents DBS certificates. These fines also apply when a child has 10 unauthorised marks/ 5 days.

We would always prefer a child to arrive late than not attend school at all, so please always try to ensure your child has good attendance. Our Education Welfare Officer regularly reviews our attendance per pupil and the reasons for absence.

My word, FS2 have been busy this half term! As part of their learning for 'Food, glorious, food' they have been sampling a lot of foods and creating their own delicious dishes to try. From jam sandwiches and fresh fruit kababs to mouth-watering pizzas wraps, they have whipped up culinary masterpieces! Even better, they got to chomp their way through the term tasting a range of different foods and learn the basics of food preparation! Such a clever bunch!
